Bio

My name is Jamie Magid. I’m a graduate of Lesley University and a self-taught costume designer. I have been designing and sewing garments for myself and others for years. I enjoy making costumes and casual wear, working from scratch and assembling costumes from preexisting pieces. For the past eight summers I have costumed for the Arts at the Armory children's theater program in Somerville MA, where I have been able to explore and express my creative skills, and discover a new passion for teaching sewing and design to young people.

My degree is in creative writing, with a focus on children and young adult fiction, and particularly the social, cultural, and behavioral impact that storytelling can have on young people. My work centers the themes of interpersonal connection, and the realities of disability within the contexts of fantastical settings.

I am also a sculptor and fiber artist, creating whimsical and fantasy inspired works in various combinations of mediums, and emphasizing the tactile and interactive elements of art in order to encourage creativity and play.

This site is dedicated to storing and displaying samples of my work.
